The landscape of QM is constantly changing, bringing new opportunities for students’ learning and enrichment in the shape of enhanced sports facilities, more spaces for arts & music or last year’s Annual Fund project to develop a new Quiet Garden within the School grounds.

With so many new developments taking place each year, it may come as a surprise to our visiting OMs to see how much of QM has in fact remained the same. Standing proudly in the courtyard of Scarborough House is the beloved Boar from our days at Castle Howard, whilst the end of term rush is accompanied by the familiar sight of open trunks lined up in Cloaks Corridor – and if you’re brave enough, the outdoor pool is still open during those slightly warmer summer months...

Our collection below is the beginning of what promises to be an exciting new phase of the School’s Archives plan, which will see the digitisation of our photographic records alongside existing hard copies currently looked after by the Development Team. This will allow us to preserve – and to share – the wealth of memories and history that has graciously been donated to the School by the QM Family over the last 100 years.

Take a look and see if you can spot any familiar faces in the galleries below.

We would love to hear how you are getting on with your post-QM endeavours – please do get in touch with your news and pictures, and let us know if you are happy for us to share these with other OMs. We publish OM news in our termly magazine “Q” and in the School Yearbook “The Margaretian”, as well as on the QM website and Facebook page.

We are always keen to receive material for the QM Archive, from old School uniform to spare copies of The Margaretian. If you have items that you would like to donate, or to send for photocopying (we would be happy to return the original via post), then please get in touch with either Alison Ruddick or Katie Harrison via our Contact Us page.

If you have seen an image within the galleries above that you would like to be removed from the QM Family Portal, please email development@queenmargarets.com.

What A Boar!
The Escrick Boar he sits alone,
A stately figure on his own,
His long lost twin, his only kin,
Is twenty miles away,
At Castle Howard sat on a plinth,
Stood bold and on display.
The Escrick Boar has one ear broken,
He Left it somewhere as a token,
Is it Here?
Or is it there?
Can you find it anywhere?
We’ve searched and searched over and over,
From Castle Howard right down to Dover,
But we believe the ear was found
Upon Queen Margaret’s sacred ground,
We’ve heard some rumours
And some talk,
“One Sunday lunch it was served as pork.”
